The other pipe conduit forms a bung end, which is axially insertable in the muff and is formed with a cylindrical outer surface. The sealing device has a sealing ring (10), which is of elastic material, preferably rubber, which has a sealing part (18) for the ring-shaped space. The sealing device has a ring-shaped component (12), which is connected with the sealing ring and comprises a non-elastic artificial resin foam, e.g. styrol artificial resin foam. The ring-shaped component is formed with recesses (22), permitting a radial expansion of the inner surface of the ring-shaped component, under the influence of the bung end.
