Polystyrene, high impact polystyrene (styrene polymerised in the presence of a rubbery diene polymer) or other thermoplastic polymer containing a non-solvent volatile liquid is extended through a die, expanding on emergence from the die, and the expanded material shaped by moving surfaces e.g. of rollers or conveyers, at least one of which is chilled; (see Group V). A long list of volatile expanding liquids is given.
