<p>A device which enables the extension in time of short laser pulses (I) which is strictly linear against frequency consists of first and second optical gratings (R1 and R 2 ) mounted perpendicular to one another. At each point the step of a grating is inversely proportional to the distance from the point in question to the other grating. The emergent beam may be amplified at AM and compressed at a further non-uniform grating to produce a high power pulse. In an alternative arrangement (figure 4, not shown), the beam emerging from the second grating panes to a third grating colinear with the input grating.</p> |
