PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an exhaust gas purification catalyst proof against a high temp. and well maintaining its NOx occluding ability, by forming a wash coating layer, on which an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal, together with a catalytically active material, have been carried on the surface of a metallic honeycomb carrier. SOLUTION: A wash coating layer of alumina, etc., is formed on a metallic honeycomb carrier and an alkali metal and an alkaline earth metal, together with a catalytically active material, are carried on the coating layer. The metal of the carrier may be special steel such as tough steel, heat resistant steel or stainless steel besides an alloy such as an Al or Ni alloy and stainless steel is preferably used. The catalytically active material is preferably Pt, Rh or Pd. The alkali metal is preferably potassium and the alkaline earth metal is preferably barium. |
