PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need of reading medium information from a CD-ROM medium for a CD-ROM device and to shorten processing time when power is turned on by saving medium information of the CD-ROM device and device state information in the external storage device of a computer main body when power is turned off, reading information saved in the external storage device and setting it in the CD-ROM device when power is turned on. SOLUTION: An external storage device saving restoring means 6 receiving a power OFF event reads medium information and device state information, which are saved in a main storage device, and saves them in the external storage device. A device state information saving restoring means 1 receiving a power ON event reads medium information and device state information from the main storage device 5, issues a setting command and sets device state information in the CD-ROM device 13. Thus, processing time for reading medium information from the CD-ROM medium, which requires much processing time when power is turned on, can be reduced.
