SOLUTION: When producing an alkenyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon by alkenylating an aromatic hydrocarbon having hydrogen atom at a position of the side chain with a conjugated diene, a solid base obtained by reacting alumina with an alkali metal compound and a potassium compound or reacting alumina with an alkali metal compound and potassium hydroxide in an inert gas atmosphere at 70-500 deg.C is used as a catalyst.
