PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber compsn. which gives a pneumatic tire improved in abrasion resistance, tear strength, and heat build-up properties by compounding a natural or diene rubber with a carbon black having specified properties. SOLUTION: This compsn. is prepd. by compounding 100 pts.wt. at least one rubber selected from among natural and diene rubbers with 30-70 pts.wt. carbon black which has a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) surface area of 120-155 m<2> /g, a dibutyl phthalate(DBP) absorption of 130-170 ml/100 g, a mode (Dst) of aggregate size distribution of 80 nm or higher, a ratio (ΔD50 /Dst ) of the half-value width (ΔD50 ) of aggregate size distribution to the mode (Dst ) of aggregate size distribution of 0.80-1.00, a ratio (N2 SA/IA) of the nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N2 SA) to the iodine adsorption(IA) of 0.85-0.97, and a ratio (CTAB/IA) of CTAB to IA of 0.70-0.90.
