PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily produce the subject compound not only being expected to have pharmacological activities but also useful as an intermediate for a perfume and a drug by reacting a specified pentadienal derivative in acetic anhydride in the coexistence of an acidic compound. SOLUTION: A pentadienal derivative, e.g. 2,5-diacetoxypentadienal, obtained from D-glycofuranurono-6,3-lactone triacetate is reacted in the coexistence of an acidic compound (e.g. an ordinary organic acid compound such as trifluoroacetic acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid, or a sulfonic acid-type ion- exchange resin) of 2-100 molar times, preferably 40-50 molar times as much as the pentadienal derivative at 0-100 deg.C, preferably at about 0-30 deg.C for 3-72 hr in acetic anhydride, and the reaction product is subjected to the isolation and purification by an ordinary separation means such as extraction, liquid separation, concentration, a thin layer chromatography and a column chromatography to provide the objective compound in the method for producing 4,5-diacetoxy-2-cyclopentanone. |
