PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vapor-deposition type magnetic recording medium which is improved in wear characteristics, durable traveling performance, and still characteristics. SOLUTION: After a magnetic layer is provided on the surface of a nonmagnetic base carried along the surfaces of rolls 51 and 52, a carbon- containing plasma polymerized film is formed as a protection layer on the magnetic layer and the surface of the carbon-containing plasma polymerized film is processed on the same or different roll 52 as or with the roll 51 without applying any bias voltage to the rolls to incorporate a double-bond component of carbon and oxygen in the carbon-containing plasma polymerized film surface by 1.4 to 7.5 at.% for the total carbon weight of the carbon-containing plasma polymerized surface. Then, a lubricating layer is formed of ester of fluorinated alcohol and fatty acid on the carbon-containing plasma polymerized film. |
