PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rational and economical liquid crystal display device capable of effectively utilizing light from a light source, and attaining the enlargement of a display area and high luminance display. SOLUTION: A directly under back light unit includes a beam splitter B polarizing and separating the light from the light source unit into transmitted light transmitted on a diffusing member side and reflected light, a reflection mirror ML reflecting the reflected light from the splitter B to the diffusing member side, and a half wave length plate H polarizing and changing the light from the mirror ML; the direction of the reflected light (S wave) reflected by the splitter B is changed to the diffusing board side by the mirror ML and the reflected light passes through the plate H, so that the reflected light is polarized and converted to P wave from the S wave, and made incident on a diffusing plate 7 with the transmitted light (P wave). |
