PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device in which a function to read a signal of the same pixel twice or over is realized independently with a simpler configuration within a field period. SOLUTION: A vertical shift register 4 being a component of a vertical scanning circuit is configured by connecting unit stages 5 each consisting of 2-stage of clocked CMOS inverters in series, a unit 6 corresponding to one bit by 2 unit stages is configured and horizontal selection lines G1, G2,... are connected to an intermediate node of each unit 6. A phase of 1st and 2nd read pulsesϕVST1,ϕVST2 received by the 1st stage unit 6 is shifted by 1/2H to conduct 1st and 2nd reading operations at the first half and the latter half in 1H period and the signal of the same pixel is read for a field period independently twice.
