摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare an image having excellent color purity, high luminance and high contrast by mixing the light of respective colors such as red, green and blue reflected by first, second and third light valves by a dichroic mirror and reflecting mixed light to a projection lens by a deflecting beam splitter. SOLUTION: A white light beam from a light source passes the deflecting beam splitter 102, and is separated into red and green and blue light beams advancing through three different paths. The light beam of each path is controlled and reflected by the light valves 105-107 of a liquid crystal cell. Reflected light beams from three different paths are mixed by the dichroic mirror 104 so as to change into synthesized light, and represent a picture pattern used so as to control the light valves 105-107. The synthesized light is directed to the projection lens 103 by the deflecting beam splitter 102, and is projected on a screen. Thus, light efficiency where the color dispersion of a projection type display is reduced is improved.
