The method for sealing a container (2) having a filling opening (6) for a product (3) comprises the following stages: A sleeve (1) is formed from a sheet of thermo-retractable sheet and the container introduced into the sleeve so as to entirely cover the opening. The whole is then heated to cause retraction of the sleeve and seal the opening by applying it against its edge zone (5). The sleeve is provided with a pre-cut perforated line (7) to enable its easy lifting from the container.
