PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize higher efficiency and a low laser threshold value by selecting dopant and wavelength, in such a manner that each dopant absorbs different one out of pumping signals. SOLUTION: Sources of pumping signals P1 ,2 , having a wavelength matching with the absorption band of active dopant, are coupled with the respective optical multiplexer parts through optical fibers 16 and 17. The output part of a multiplexer 18 is coupled with a clad of a first part of a fiber 10. This is called end portion pumping 11, and both of the pumping signals P1 ,2 . are simultaneously coupled in the fiber clad. As the result of pumping of the clad, Nd dopant in a core of the first part is excited by the pumping signal P1 , and Yb dopant in a core of a second part 15 is excited only by the pumping signal P2. Photons are emitted from the two parts. The radiation is reflected by a Bragg diffraction grating 21, 22, and laser light output is generated. |
