A slidable support device (22) for garments for use in a vehicle includes a support (24), a hook (24, 40), and a locking mechanism (27). The support (24) is coupled to the vehicle. The support includes two longitudinally extending grooves (28) that are spaced from one another. The hook (26) includes two longitudinally extending contact surfaces (38, 42) that are spaced from one another. The hook contact surfaces are shaped to mate with the support grooves in a sliding engagement. Upon engagement of the hook (26) with the support (24), the hook slides relative to the support. The locking mechanism (27) releasably retains the hook (26) at various longitudinal positions along the support (24).
