The pad has an electric surface heating element (10) provided by a flexible carrier (12) supporting a resistance heating element (22). The flexible carrier is made from a plastics mesh material, to which a resistance wire (16) for the resistance heating element is attached via adhesive strips (24). The opposite ends (18,20) of the resistance wire are contacted via contact surface elements (26) on the opposite side of the mesh material to the adhesive strips, secured to the latter via the holes in the mesh.
