A mobile phase into which a sample has been injected is passed through a separation column (5) to separate an S-nitroso compound. An aqueous nonalkaline solution of a mercury, silver, or copper salt, etc. is added to the separated S-nitroso compound with a reactant feed pump (7) to liberate HNO2 from the compound inside a reaction channel (6). The Griess reagent is added to the HNO2 contained in the reaction mixture during or after the liberation process with a reactant feed pump (9) to generate a diazo compound. The concentration of the generated diazo compound is determined by absorptiometry with a detector (10). Alternatively, a fluorescent reagent comprising diaminonaphthalene or an analogue thereof is added to the S-nitroso compound together with a mercury, silver, or copper salt, etc. with the pump (7) to generate a fluorescent azo compound, to which a fluorescence developer is added with the pump (9). The resultant mixture is analyzed by fluorometry with the detector. Thus, the S-nitroso compound is determined.
