Filter-press for sewage or industrial slurry

Intermittent filtration of sewage and industrial slurry is carried out in a filter-press subdivided into zones (40 - 40c) traversed by a filter band conveyor (36) carrying the slurry. Pressure is applied by cushion (42), inflated by water, compressing the slurry against fixed plates (44). The structure of the slurry is changed between press zones by shear forces created as slurry passes over idlers (38). A coarse dewatering zone is provided by conveyor (30), which runs continuously at variable rates. Also claimed is the equipment required for this method.
