The magazine (4) for covering boards has a stock of covering boards (9). A magazine (6) for transverse boards has a stock of transverse boards. The pick-up device (12) feeds the unit consisting of the assembly platform (14) belonging to an assembly machine (8). A second magazine (5) has a stock (10) of covering boards of a different width from those in the first stock. The covering board magazines are formed by bars (15,16) extending across the longitudinal axis of the boards and travelling as far as the assembly platform. The bars have abutment cams (17) which can be lowered.
