The present invention relates to a system for bidirectional transmission and rec eption of optical signals, said system incorporating at least one transmitter and at least one rec eiver, and an optical fibre for transmitting the optical signals. Provision is made such that the transmitter (20) and the receiver (18) are assoc iated directly with an effective optical surfaces (26) of the optical fibre (14). (see fig.I)
