Grille-type work-production method from plate or coil

The profiled work is produced from material in plate (4) or coil form. Parts of the material are stretched so as to form the grille (40) and solid (41) portions. It is then straightened, and profiled in a final operation. The grille portions can be formed by a knife (10) moving vertically up and down, the knife not travelling for a full stroke at the join between the grille and solid portions. Profiling can be carried out in several stages. The top knife (10) can oscillate in the vertical and horizontal directions, working with a bottom knife (11). The work is indexed forward by a motor for the length of the solid portion, but only when the top knife is lifted clear of the work.
