Plastic composite mouldings with strong reinforcing aramid fibres

Highly accurate, strongly-reinforced light plastic composite mouldings, where reinforcement comprises high-performance aramid fibres and the products formed, having exceptionally precise dimensions and/or form, includes at least one part of the surface kept free of the reinforcement fibres. Also claimed is the method of manufacture, especially using conventional winding or laminating processes and which comprises starting from a desired finished section, with the still-soft preforms provided with an aramid fibre-free material over at least one surface area, which is especially a plastic. The mouldings are hardened, and the aramid-free surface section is then machined to precise dimensions and contours.
