Porous concrete blockwork with reinforcing grids

Flat-rolled expanded metal grids (3) are embedded in a thin layer of mortar (4) applied to the surface (2a) of porous concrete blockwork in the area of the tension zone, to provide reinforcement. Preferably, several strips of expanded metal, about 15 cm wide, are positioned vertically, spaced from each other on the inside of a cellar wall (1) subject to earth pressure, and are bonded to the blockwork surface by mortar. The expanded metal preferably made of stainless steel and the mortar has a compression strength of at least 10 N/mm<2>.
