Plants of the genus Hyptis (Labiatae family) are used for making extracts used in cosmetics for lightening the skin, eliminating freckles and improving and homogenising complexion. Inter alia, the H. pectinata, H. verticillata, H. capitata, H. mutabilis, H. suaveolens, H. spicigera species can be used. The extracts, obtained by the usual (maceration, decoction) or novel (microwaves, ultrasounds) methods can contain variable amounts of phenolic, flavonoid derivatives or hydroquinone derivatives. |
