A novel lithographic rotary printing element, which is directly laser writable and is erasable, has a printing face of a non-porous zirconium oxide ceramic which is alloyed with one or more of MgO, CaO, Y2O3, Sc2O3 and rare earth oxides as secondary oxide and which has 5.6-6.2 g/cm<3> density. Also claimed is an imaging process employing the above printing element.
