<p>The apparatus has first and second sections connected by an articulated joint with a lock to prevent their rotation, and a load detector which controls the lock. The load detector comprises a pouch (6) containing a fluid, connected to the lock by a tube (7). The fluid has a low level of compressibility, which can be regulated by introducing air or other gas, and the lock is in the form of a ratchet mechanism which prevents any flexure of the lower limb but permits extension.</p> |
