摘要 <p>The ultrasonic probe (30) is applied to the outer face of a bimetallic element, especially the steel seating (16) of a gate valve, to determine the thickness of the lining (14), which is an anti-friction alloy having a hardness superior to the seating steel. The probe (30) is connected by a cable (26) to a processing circuit that has a memory including data relating to the different bimetallic materials such as the speed of sound in each of the materials, from which knowing the time of flight of the sound signal within the alloy lining (14) its thickness (e) can be determined. The probe (30) is inserted in a housing (31) forming part of a solid support element, which is part of a tool fitted to the body of the gate, by an adjustable positioning device.</p>
