Mechanism for storing and discharging supermarket trolleys

The trolleys (2) are the type which have a wider rear wheelbase and baskets which taper toward the front. The also have a rear panel which hinges upwards when the front of another trolley is inserted, allowing them to nest. The front wheels of the trolleys are wheeled into U-shaped grooves in the parallel assembly rails (10). Each trolley is nested inside its predecessor. A hydraulic cylinder or other actuating device can move the trolley over a distance in either direction. The distance is limited by pawl devices (11) set into the tracks.
