PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new type liquid polyester imide which can be used as a thermoplastic elastomer component by mixing a carboxyl-terminated compound with p-/m-acetoxycarboxylic acids and diacetoxy compound and optionally an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, melting the resultant mixture, removing the formed acetic acid from the melt and condensing the melt at a specified temperature in vacuo. SOLUTION: A carboxyl-terminated compound of formula I (wherein R is an aliphatic polyether chain or a siloxane chain) is mixed with p- and/or m- acetoxycarboxylic acids of formula II, a diacetoxy compound of formula III (wherein Z is H, a 1-6C alkyl or the like; and w is 0 or 1) and optionally an aromatic dicarboxylic acid of formula IV. The specified temperature is 150-300 deg.C. The obtained block copolymer ester imide comprises repeating units represented by formula V (wherein Z is H, a 1-6C alkyl, a 1-6C alkoxyl, phenyl, benzyl or a halogen; r is 4; m is 3-65; w is 0 or 1; a+b+c=1; and a=b). |
