Dyes of the azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, perylene tetracarbonamide, azine, oxazine, nitro, phthalo-and naphthalo-perinone, naphthoylene-imidazole, and quinacridone series containing at least one sulphinic group (-SO2H or salt thereof) are employed to colour textile fibres. The dyes may also contain -SO3H, -COOH, -S2O3Na and -OSO3H groups as well as known "reactive" groups. The dyes may be obtained by conversion of a sulphochloride group with a reducing agent, e.g. sodium sulphite. Examples are given.ALSO:Textile fibres of natural or regenerated cellulose, wool, silk or synthetic polyamide are coloured by applying a dye containing at least one sulphinic group (-SO2H or a salt thereof) and fixing by means of heat at 100-220 DEG C. The fixing may be achieved, e.g. for wool or polyamide, by bringing the dyebath to the boil or by padding and heating, e.g. for cotton. The fixation may be carried out in the presence of sulphur or an agent yielding sulphur, e.g. thiourea, alkyl- or aryl-thiourea, a thioamide thiocyanate, alkali metal sulphide or thiosulphate as well as an alkali, thickener, solvent, hydrotrope, wetting or dispersing agent, stabilizer or other auxiliary. The dyes may be of the azo, anthraquinone, perylene tetracarbon-amide, azine, oxazine, nitro, phthalocyamine, phthalo- or naphthaloperinone, naphthoyleneimidazole or qiunacridone series. The dyes may also contain -S2O3Na, -OSO3H, -SO3H or -COOH groups as well as known "reactive" groups. Examples are given.
