Compounds of the general formula wherein R and R1 are hydrogen or organic radicals containing 1 to 22 carbon atoms, R and R1 having a combined total of 8 to 24 carbon atoms and at most one of R and R1 being hydrogen; R11 is hydrogen or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon or corresponding substituted hydrocarbon linked via carbon to the carbonyl group; A and B together constitute a single linkage or are separately hydrogen, halogen, or aliphatic radicals containing up to 5 carbon atoms or halogen-substituted aliphatic radicals containing up to 5 carbon atoms; and X is an alkali metal sulphate or sulphonate, alkaline earth metal sulphate or sulphonate, magnesium sulphate or sulphonate, ammonium sulphate or sulphonate, sulphonic acid or sulphuric acid radical are included in detergent or soap compositions as lime soap dispersants. Specified detergents are the alkali metal alkylaryl sulphonates and specified soaps are those intended to be utilized as personal or laundry bar soap or soap flakes or powder for laundering purposes. The sulphonate lime soap dispersant compounds may be formed in situ in a soap by including in the soap composition a 2-dioxy-1,2,5-oxathiazine of the general formula and subsequently hydrolysing said compound at 50 DEG C. or above and neutralizing with an appropriate base in situ.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of the general Formula (I) wherein R and R1 are hydrogen or organic radicals containing from 1 to 22 carbon atoms, R and R1 having a combined total of 8 to 24 carbon atoms, and at most one of R and R1 being hydrogen; R11 is hydrogen or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon or corresponding substituted hydrocarbon linked via carbon to the carbonyl grouping; A and B together constitute a single linkage or are separately hydrogen, halogen, or aliphatic radicals containing up to 5 carbon atoms or halogen-substituted aliphatic radicals containing up to 5 carbon atoms; and X is an alkali metal sulphate or sulphonate, alkaline earth metal sulphate or sulphonate, magnesium sulphate or sulphonate, ammonium sulphate or sulphonate, sulphonic acid or sulphuric acid radical. They may be prepared by (1) hydrolysing at 50 DEG C. or above a 2-dioxy-1,2,5-oxathiazine of the general formula to give a compound of Formula I above wherein X is a sulphonic acid radical and, optionally neutralizing the compound so formed to form the corresponding alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, magnesium or ammonium sulphonate salt; or (2) reacting a compound of the general formula or wherein M is an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, magnesium or ammonium cation, with a carboxylic acid anhydride of the formula (R11CO)2O to produce the corresponding sulphonate or sulphate of Formula I. The 2-dioxy -1,2,5-oxathiazine reactants may be prepared as described in Specification 1,064,125. The vicinal amino sulphuric acid ester reactants may be prepared by sulphating an appropriate vicinal amino alcohol.
