PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a member for casting capable of surely producing high- quality products for continuous casting having excellent oxidation resistance and wear resistance stably for a long period of time by forming a coating layer of silicon carbide at a specific depth on the part of a carbon blank where this blank comes into contact with molten metal and slag, then, subjecting the part to a mirror finishing. SOLUTION: This member for continuous casting is composed by using the silicon-carbide composite material of which the silicon carbide layer formed at the front layer part of the carbon blank has the depth of at least >=1 mm and which the uniform dispersibility of the silicon carbide base part of this silicon carbide layer is assured in the depth direction as well. The silicon-carbide composite material is produced by the following method: A slurry is prepd. by dispersing a mixture composed of silicon powder and boron carbide powder into a liquid mixture composed of a resin for a binder and a solvent. This slurry is applied on the necessary parts of the carbon base material. After the carbon material is dried, the material is subjected to a high-temp. heat treatment and the surface formed as SiC is subjected to mirror finishing. |
