PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dehydration agent developing excellent flocculating dehydration capacity in sludge containing a large amt. of soluble salts. SOLUTION: This dehydration agent is composed of a mixture of a polymer obtained by the reverse phase emulsion polymn. of a monomer containing acryloyloxyethyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride and a difunctional monomer in the presence of a chain transfer agent and a hydrophilic surfactant called a phase transfer agent to be diluted up to concn. added to sludge by water. In this state, particles with a particle size of 30μm or less are observed by a microscope. This diluted soln. has properties for forming a continuous dry film when it is applied to a glass plate to be dried at 105 deg.C.
