PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal orienting agent, capable of preparing a liquid crystal display element having a high voltage retention ratio and an ultralow residual DC voltage and useful for word processors, etc., by including a specific polymer and a specified compound therein. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal orienting agent comprises (A) one or more polymers selected from a polyamic acid such as a compound represented by the formula (R<12> is a tetravalent organic group; R<18> is a bivalent organic group) and its imidated polymer and (B) one or more compounds selected from a polymer having 14 permittivity such as polyacrylic acid and a monomer constituting the polymer. The compounding ratio of the components A to B is preferably 15-50 pts.wt. component B based on 100 pts.wt. component A. |
