The invention relates to a method and a device for producing wire from cast aluminum strands with a trapezoidal cross-section. Said strands undergo several roll forming steps (5, 6) after casting and hardening in the peripheral groove of a casting wheel (2) that is partially covered by a strip (2a). According to the invention, impurities deposited on the surface of the strand coming out of the casting wheel at casting speed are mechanically removed in-line during the first forming step at a temperature of 450-500 DEG C.
