PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preventing method of a buckling on a metallic strip without needing the embedding of a temp. measuring instrument, such as a thermocouple, in a hearth roll and also, a special heating device, such as edge heater. SOLUTION: In the preventing method of the bucling on the metallic strip in a continuous heat treatment apparatus, the atmospheric temp. Tg surrounding the hearth roll is controlled to the temp. satisfying the following inequality shown with the width W, thickness (t) and temp. T ( deg.C) of the metallic strip. Tg>=T-250+0.02×W/t (in the figure,ΔT=T-Tg). Further, in the case of being the steel strip having <=0.01 wt.% carbon content, the metallic strip is controlled to the temp. satisfying the following inequality Tg>=T-200+0.02×W/ t.
