PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydrogen storage Ni base alloy contributing to the suppression of the secular reduction of discharge capacitance. SOLUTION: The molten metal of an Ni base alloy obtd. by incorporating an Ni base alloy satisfying the formula of ABx (where A denotes rare earth elements essentially consisting of La and/or Ce, B denotes Ni, Co, Mn and Al, and X satisfies 4.7 to 5.6 by atomic ratio) with 0.02 to 0.5 wt.% carbon in the ratio occupies in the whose body is cooled by a lid, rapid solidifying method to regulate its structure into a single phase structure of AB5 phases or a mixed structure of AB5 phases and A2 B7 phases in which carbon is allowed to enter into solid solution in both cases. Then, this is subjected to heat treatment of executing holding under heating at 350 to 950 deg.C in a hydrogen atmosphere, and, into the AB5 phases and A2 B7 phases, carbon is precipitated as fine carbides. |
