PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ultrafine powder copper catalyst for dehydrogenating alcohol which is low-priced and is of high selection characteristics and high activity by thermally treating an organic copper complex in hydrogen and setting an average particle diameter, a cryststallite diameter and a specific surface of the specific value respectively. SOLUTION: This ultrafine powder copper catalyst has an average particle diameter of 1-20 μm, a crystallite diameter of 10-25 μm ((III) face) and a specific surface of 70 m<2> /g or more. The method for manufacturing the ultrafine powder copper catalyst in not particularly defined but the catalyst can be manufactured, by, for example thermally treating an organic copper complex in hydrogen. Further, the organic copper complex as a catalytic precursor can be manufactured by coordinating a ligand in a copper compound. The raw material copper compound is copper chloride, copper acetate, copper surface or copper nitrate. The ligand required for manufacturing the organic copper complex is acetylkacetone, hexyleneglycol or ethylenediamine. |
