PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily purify anα-,β- orγ-substituted carboxylic acid mixture from an aqueous solution by electrodialyzing an aqueous solution containing the mixture and a polyol. SOLUTION: An a-,β- orγ-substituted carboxylic acid is purified from an aqueous solution containing theα-,β- orγ-substituted carboxylic acid, its salt or ester or their mixture and at least one kind of polyol or at least one kind of amino alcohol and optionally a cation of at least one kind of a strong base by electrodialyzing the solution by conventional two-cycle electrodialysis, dipolar two-cycle electrodialysis and/ or dipolar three-cycle electrodialysis.
