PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new enzyme comprising a polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence and having an enzymatic activity for polyester polymerization, and useful for producing the copolyesters based on monomer units having carbon atoms in a wide range and having various kinds of physical properties, etc. SOLUTION: This new polyester polymerization enzyme comprises a new polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence of the formula or an amino acid sequence comprising the amino acid sequence of the formula wherein one to several amino acids are deleted, replaced or added, and is useful for producing biodegradable copolyesters based on monomer units having carbon atoms in a wide range and ranged from solid copolyesters to rubbery viscoelastic polyesters. The enzyme is obtained by extracting a chromosomal DNA from Pseudomonas s.p. JCM 10015 stain by a conventional method, making a chromosomal DNA library from the extracted DNA, screening the library, inserting the obtained gene into a plasmid, transforming Escherichia coli with the plasmid, and subsequently culturing the transformant. |
