In a heavy oil engine supplied with diesel oil 5 at starting and provided with a pressurized coolant system, the heavy oil supplied by a pump 27 from a tank 7 is heated in a heat exchanger 18 by the coolant liquid. The part of tank 7 adjacent the pump suction pipe 28 is heated by an electric heater 31 which, during running, is assisted by excess heated fuel returned to the tank through return pipe 35. A cock 22 is adjustable to supply diesel oil or heavy oil to the injection pump 3. The heater tank 12 of the coolant system is pressurized by a compressed air vessel 11. |
