Prodn. of a sealing element (1) made of one material e.g. crosslinked elastomer e.g. EPDM, having an area (5) covered by a band (50) of a second different material. This second material e.g. a double sides adhesive tape, has a lower degradation temp. than the treatment temp. of the first needed to give the elastic joint (1) a permanent shape partic. in curved areas. Prodn. stages are (a) place the band (50) on the elastic joint (5), (b) permanently shape the sealing element by heating for a set time, while all the time locally cooling the area of the band to below its degradation temp. Also claimed is the appts., consisting of two heated jaws (11,12) to give the shape and cooling device (30) in thermal contact with the adhesive band (50), circulated with cooling fluid. |
