Pyrotechnic gas generator with adaptive flow and volume for air bag

The pyrotechnic source (100) has a single-piece cylindrical housing (1) with a lateral wall (2) and a transverse wall (3) which divides the body into an inlet compartment (4) and an outlet compartment (5). Each of these compartments contains a pyrotechnic charge (6,7) and an ignition system (15,16). A cover (30) and a box (31) are fixed on the lateral external wall to form a diffusion chamber. A security unit (26) fitted in a part of the lateral wall allows isolation of each compartment from the combustion gases issued from the other compartment, allowing either partial or full inflation of the air bag in response to electrical signals received by the unit.
