Oxygen storage material having high temperature stability based on cerium oxide and process for preparing such a material

An oxygen-storing material containing cerium(Ce)-oxide, and a stabiliser comprising Pr-, La-, Y- or Nd-oxide, in highly dispersed form on the surface of a high surface carrier. The storage material has a specific surface area of≥20 (preferably≥30) m<2>/g after calcining in air at 900 degrees C for 10 hours. Production of the material is also claimed by adding dissolved precursors of the stabiliser and Ce-oxide to a prepared aqueous dispersion of carrier whilst stirring, and precipitating the material by slowly raising the pH of the dispersion to 8-10 by adding a base to the carrier.
