PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant reinforced molding composition having improved electrical properties by mixing a polyamide resin with a halogenated flame tetardant, fibrous glass and or mineral fillers and pyro/polyphosphates. SOLUTION: The pyro/polyphosphates are metal pyrophosphates, metal polyphosphates, metal acid pyrophosphates, metal acid polyphosphates or mixtures thereof. Desirably, they are represented by the formula: M<2> x Hy Pn O3n+1 (wherein M is a metal, desirably a group IA, IIA, IB or IIB metal x is 1-12; y is 0-12; n is 2-12; z is 1-5; and (xz)+y=n+2). Sodium acid pyrophosphate is the most desirable. The amount of the pyro/polyphosphate added is about 0.5 to about 40 wt.%. The polyamide which is desirable is polyamide-6,66,11 or 12. In order to improve the tracking index, the composition may further contain an olefin polymer. |
