PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mirror for coupling optical fibers which is excellent in durability and life of the product from such properties as it has a high hardness and strength, and it is resistant to get surface flaw and will not be broken or cracked by impact during transportation, etc., and is further resistant to warping. SOLUTION: This mirror is a U-shaped gutter form body comprised of a sintered body of nitride, carbide, or carbide/nitride of a metallic element belonging to the groups 4a, 5a, and 6a of the periodic table, and a back side surface of the bottom 3a of the ditch in the gutter body is mirror-finished 5 and a thickness t of the bottom 3a of the ditch 3 is made to 0.1 to 0.5 mm. And, a surface roughness Ra of the mirror surface is made to 0.1μm or smaller, and a flatness to 1μm or smaller. |
