<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the pointing device and data input device constituted by providing a mouse function and a joy stick function for one pointing device. SOLUTION: The pointing device 30 has a means which specifies which of mouse operation mode and joy stick operation mode this device is used in and a means which sends operation data having information on the specified operation mode to an IrDA port 22. A driver which is actuated by a CPU 101 has a means which judges the operation mode from the input data received at the IrDA port 22, and calculates a movement quantity the current input data and last input data and controls the movement of a cursor in the mouse operation mode and holds the input data in a specific register in the joy stick operation mode.</p> |
