The blood group of a human blood sample is determined using apparatus comprising frame 1 having mounted on it plate 18 which has indentations 20a, 20b, 20c; means mounted on the frame, for example pipettes 9a, 9b, 9c powered by pump 13, for taking a sample of blood from a person positioned at a sampling point near the apparatus, mixing the blood with a test serum and placing the mixture in one of the indentations; and photographic means comprising camera 30 mounted on frame 1 and effective to photograph simultaneously, on to two contiguous strips of film, the face of the person positioned at the sampling point and plate 18. In the apparatus shown, pipettes 9a &c. are mounted on carriage 7 which is moveable on rails 3, 4. In operation carriage 7 is moved to a position over test sera containers 19a, 19b, 19c and a known amount of serum sucked into the respective. pipetes by means of pump 13. The carriage is then moved to the sampling postion and blood samples sucked into the pipettes to mix with the respective sera in pipette bulbs (11a), (11b), (11c) (Fig. 3 not shown). Further movement of carriage 7 enables deposition cf the sample-serum mixtures into respective indentations 20a, 20b, 20c and washing of the pipettes with wash liquid from container (16) on elevatable platform (15). (Fig. 1 not shown). Plate 18 can be rocked in cradle 21 to assist the reactions. The apparatus may be operated under control of a programmer. |
