PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as a plant activating agent for agriculture and horticulture such as flower-blooming promoter or green retaining agent for ornamental plants, a freshness-retaining agent for vegetables and fruits and petal, an antimicrobial agent, a mildewproofing agent, ultraviolet light absorbent, etc. SOLUTION: This cyclodextrin clathrate compound comprises a decomposed substance of lignin. The compound is obtained by a method, e.g. a saturated aqueous solution method comprising adding mixing an aqueous solution of lignin decomposed substance or a solution obtained by previously dissolving a small amount of the lignin decomposed solution in solvent such as ethanol with a saturated aqueous solution of cyclodextrin under stirring. Cinnamic acid, etc., is used as the decomposed substance of lignin andβ-cyclodextrin, etc., is used as cyclodextrin. Only characteristic odor can be reduced while exhibiting various kinds of effects which the decomposed material of lignin has by including the decomposed material of lignin into cyclodextrin.
