PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute changeover of a driving mode appropriately according to travel resistance by switching a driving state suitably from a two-wheel drive state to a four-wheel drive state when the travel load quantity of a vehicle is larger than the specified value. SOLUTION: In case of switching a driving mode command from a two-wheel drive mode to a full-time four-wheel drive mode, judgment based on vehicle speed V (S52), judgment based on the absolute value|ΔVC|of propeller shaft rotation difference (S56), judgment on whether travel load resistance fV is larger than the specified value fV1 (S60), judgment based on a rough road degree (akuro) (S64), judgment based on a sporty degree (sport) (S68) are made, and whether shift is possible is judged. Since the travel load resistance fV is made a discrimination condition, in case of the vehicle traveling on the road surface of large travel resistance, changeover from the two-wheel drive mode to the four-wheel drive mode can be made on the basis of a driving mode command corresponding to the traveling state of the vehicle. The actual driving mode is therefore switched from the two-wheel drive mode to the full-time four-wheel drive mode satisfactorily with good responsiveness.
